STEFAN PASBORG is one of his generation’s most brilliant, inspiring and visionary musicians, and over the last 25 years he has established himself as one of the most successful Danish instrumentalists.

He has performed more than 2.000 concerts all over the world, in 40 different countries, on 5 continents, from Shanghai to Vancouver, from Monte-Carlo to Moscow, from Varanger to Casablanca, from Zanzibar to Seoul and from New York to Saõ Paulo – and has released countless significant releases. And, in addition, he has been a strong and visionary initiator who, among other things, has given us both the orchestra Ibrahim Electric and the record company ILK Music.

Pasborg is a highly energetic drummer from the melting pot of Copenhagen, and after getting a snare drum, a cymbal and a high-hat at the age of three from renowned jazz drummer Alex Riel, he has developed into one of the most personal and versatile young european drummers / bandleaders – from groove to abstract. So if you have been just a bit interested in what has been happening in the circles around jazz and improvised music coming from Europe over the past 25 years, you will surely have become acquainted with Stefan Pasborgs eternally inventive drumming at some point.

With bands like Ibrahim Electric, Stefan Pasborg Trio w/ Carsten Dahl & Fredrik Lundin, Magic Spirit Quartet, Pasborgs Odessa 5-XL, The Firebirds, Toxikum, Free Moby Dick,  or in duo-settings with a.o. Dawda Jobarteh, Pasborg manages to impress both critics and audiences, and has performed with such diverse musicians from the very elite of musicians worldwide like f.ex Ray Anderson, Ellery Eskelin, Enrico Pierranunzi, Wadada Leo Smith, Tomasz Stanko, John Tchicai, Marc Ducret, Miroslav Vitous, Majid Bekkas, Tim Berne, Palle Danielsson, Anders Jormin, Goran Kajfes, Stal̊ e Storløkken, Juhani Aaltonen, Alex Riel, Mikko Innanen, Liudas Mockunas, Kjetil Møster, Annisette, Carsten Dahl, Jesper Zeuthen, Alex Riel, Lotte Anker and Peter Friis Nielsen.

Stefan Pasborg is a triple Danish Music Award winner… at Danish Music Awards 2004 he was voted New Jazzname of The Year and his release “Toxikum” was voted Jazz Discovery of the Year…and his release “Pasborg Odessa X-tra Large” received a Danish Music Award in 2011.
His first release as a leader – “TriplePoint” (ILK 2007) – was selected into worldwide TOP 5 ‘Best Debut Albums of 2007’ by the American magazine The New York City Jazz Record.
In 2011 he was selected to be Artist-in- Residence at Copenhagen Jazzhouse… and in 2012 he had the honor of being the first musician on stage on the opening night of the rebuilt Copenhagen Jazzhouse, and the same year national television DR produced five documentaries about him.
Pasborg has won prizes such as the Soloist Prize at the 16th European Jazz Contest in Germany, the 1st prize at the 5th European Tournament of Improvised Music in France, Jazznytprisen in 2012 and one of the most prestigious music-prizes in his native Denmark: Gudmanprisen in 2017.
The music score Pasborg did for the finnish movie HIT BIG (“Hetki Lyo”̈ ), was nominated for a Jussi Award in 2023, and won the prestigious Musical Insight of the Year award given by Teosto and Gramex in Finland in 2023.
Pasborg has furthermore received grants for artistic work from among others: Danish Arts Foundations, Danish Musicians Union, Norden, KODA, DJBFA.
